FAQ for USC Financial Aid

DS USC grant was reduced by 80%. Work Study was taken away. Can’t figure it out either. We reported same income as year before and spent down our assets on tuition last year. It is a mystery…

^when did you receive your Financial Aid statement for this year minnymom and rosieoney? I am anxiously awaiting DS’s!

It was up two days ago.

If this happens to my DD after freshman year, we are in serious trouble.

Minnymom, did you all get notified it was complete? I am so nervous now! Nothing for us yet.

NC Mom, Nothing for us yet either. I am hoping they roll out in waves. It isn’t July 1st yet.

Paper letter arrived today,so I believe it is final.

MinnyMom

I think you should call fininacial aid tomorrow . Good luck.

Received our package yesterday… Pretty much the same, but the estimated cost of attendance has gone up (approaching the 60K mark omg) so our EFC was just a tad higher.

Just checked DS’s account. His is up too but definitely not complete. DS has two scholarships which are not showing. No grants showing either. DS is going to study abroad this fall so his COA is showing as $49000 not $60k plus. And his Presidential Scholarship is showing as full amount each semester even though the first semester should be less since his tuition for study abroad is less. We have not received an email yet.

Still waiting here…

still waiting here as well. should i be worried?

still haven’t gotten anything…

Ours was posted on line over a week ago then mailed , our payments $420 per month last year , $2000 this year costs gone up, grant didnt, work study reduced.

Follow up on DS’s FA. We never got an email saying it was available, but statement arrived in the mail Monday. Just stafford loans and scholarships. We had about $6000 in grants last year. DS’s COA is only $49k though due to study abroad this fall. Can’t tell whether we would have received grants if the COA was the USC full amount or not. Still missing one scholarship (National Merit). Called FA office last Tuesday and they said it will appear soon.

Happy news… gave FA some additional financial info and our aid package was changed to reflect an amount about equal to last year’s package including the grant that we were counting on. Work Study was restored, so DS can go back to his small job that he really enjoys having. All is well!

great news, Minnymom. We’re still waiting on appeal. Did you get a letter or email from FA with results of your appeal?

DS got an email that award was updated. We can view it through USConnect. Good luck to you!

Congrats minnymom!

HELP PLEASE!

I recently got a job. I am a spring admit, so I’m estimating that by the time I move to SC, I will have saved up probably $3,000, maybe a little more. Do I need to notify the financial aid office of this? I am still waiting to hear back on my appeal and I don’t want me getting a job and saving up money to take away from any grant money they might give me, as $3k is not really a significant increase in my family’s income/assets or anything…but I also don’t want to get in trouble for having more money in my bank account (which I just opened) then I did when I sent the appeal (or to get in trouble next year when they are re-figuring out my FA package and I will need to send in W-4 forms or something). Any money that I do save I am planning to use to help repay loans from this academic year, but if any grant money I recieve gets reduced because of my job, then my job is basically a pointless effort…
What should I do? Thank you!
