It’s amazing that they have now played 14 hours on stage, repeated just one song, and still have far more unplayed songs than they could hope to play in tonight’s 3.5 hours.
I’m just hoping they’re having so much fun doing this that they’ll reconsider the whole “last shows” idea…Perhaps they’ll all morph into a new Phil Lesh and Friends configuration and start playing regularly at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael!
I could walk to Terrapin Crossroads.
I have a friend who is there with several Deadhead friends. They’ve been followers since forever, Im guessing mid 70.s
Me? Not a Deadhead.

Attics of My Life
Twitter kept me updated, emotion poured out. Weir in " let trey sing" epic touch, as is the message “be kind” …
Attics of my life nice ending .
Great ending.
Both sets started off like gang-busters, but there was a little too much late-era dirge-like ballads for my taste. The Unbroken Chain with Phil Lesh “singing” was excrutiating. Of course, the later era stuff is probably more familiar to the Dead’s younger fans. I’m more familiar with the older stuff.
I was expecting more of a party show set list tonight. Having said that, the Truckin’ > Cassidy > Althea was right up there as the best of the five show run. Equal to last night’s Tennessee Jed > Cumberland Farms > Little Red Rooster.
And China Cat Sunflower > I Know You Rider and Not Fade Away are always great.
I think my favorite song of the entire run was the Ripple encore Friday night in Chicago.
re#7, IMO it’s not the little songs. Those were mostly just ok.
What they did that was more interesting was, they could get into a real groove, of extended length, within some of those particular little tunes. And then keep you there. For a long time. With Jerry Garcia playing scales for hours while everyone bopped and gyrated.
The albums were somewhat less interesting because the most interesting part of what they did was mostly live. Although I for one didn’t find their recordings to be horrible.
There’s a couple of Ithaca area bands, Donna the Buffalo and The Horeseflies, that can get sort of to that same place, live. Playing very different music.
That’s probably what “jam band” music is. But I’m not young and/or cool enough to really know what “jam band” music actually is.
Anyway it;s ok to not like “trucking” or the other dead tunes that got some air time.
Taken by themselves, they’re really not that great.
Hendrix, that’s another story.
- arbiter of musical taste-
Following tweets during the final set very exciting.
And, reading reviews now.
i-dad, I am still waiting to hear from my sister. She was in a skybox for the last night (don’t know how that happened, and I have no idea how much she paid for tickets, if she had good seating otherwise, how much the hotels were charging, etc. - other than this was kind of a spiritual experience for her and on her bucket list. If she’s not too stoned, I’ll ask for details, ha ha.
I was going to be bummed if they actually closed 50 years with Touch of Grey.
OHMom2…Me too. I thought it would be Not Fade Away, but that was not quite it. Attics of My Life was a good call. In general this was not my favorite set list of the five shows.
Despite the adrenaline they must have been really beat by the end of the final show. Phil Lesh is 75!!
They’ve cut the price of 30 days of access to the streaming webcasts. $18 for each of the five shows. My recommendation, if you want to watch one, is the second night in Chicago – the July 4th show. I think it was the best combination of band energy and set list, plus the added bonus of two fireworks shows over the Chicago lakefront from the blimp cam.
The first set of the 4th of July show was amazing. Actually, with the exception of Phil Lesh “singing” Friend of the Devil, I would say the first set of this show as perfection.

Anxiousmom:
I thought this stretch (“Terrapin Station” / “Drums” / “Space” / “Unbroken Chain” / “Days Between”) brought the second set of the finale show to a screeching halt. Actually, the Drums/Space was the best of the five set run, quite entertaining. But, the three songs around it were a long unbroken stretch without a melody, a catchy hook, a beat, I needed coffee before Not Fade Away…
I agree interesteddad that the July 4 show was the best of the bunch…and the second set of the final show was kind of unfortunate…although Mickey’s horns on Space were highly amusing.
I think I liked the 5th best, Cassidy, althea, terrapin, unbroken chain are some of my favorites. Also love China cat rider opener. But the 4th is good too. To me both beat the second ca show which I thought was super slow, and I only heard those 3. I’ve always hated d/s. Still do.
The second show in Santa Clara had some great stuff:
Brown-Eyed Women
Loose Lucy
Loser
Row Jimmy
Black Peter
Wharf Rat
Eyes of the World
He’s Gone
Sugar Magnolia
Encore: Brokedown Palace
I watched the first three songs of the second set from the final night again just now:
Truckin’
Cassidy
Althea
Terrific
I-dad - my sister finally emerged from the Dead ( pun intended) late in Monday - we exchanged a few texts and then she said she was going to bed (at 7 pm). I’m sure she had a blast. I assume she goes back to work today (Tues).
Love Loser and Brokedown but the rest, meh. For me personally
A NH public radio station has posted a website with song by song streaming audio of the three Chicago shows. Just on a quick listen, it seems these are probably the actual soundboard/webcast audio. Just pick a show and you can scroll through all the songs and listen to any that suit your fancy.

I’ve got the shows on my iPod now. Just as good to listen to as to watch.
Super thanks for sharing Idad !
