In Fareed Zakaria’s new book, The Post-American World, Mr. Zakaria argues that we are living through the third great power shift in modern history. Here’s a link to an excerpt in Newsweek entitled “The Rise of the Rest.” It’s a thought-provoking read.

Isn’t Mr. Zakaria somewhat (extremely) liberal? From reading some of his articles when they appear in TIME, his views are pretty liberal. As such, is this book extremely biased?

His views are really all over the map. He’s far from “extremely liberal”. He’s center-left on most things but his interviews tend to be pretty unbiased. He’s one of the few reporters/commentators I can stand listening to.

I like reading Zakaria’s pieces and listening to his interviews. I sincerely hope the plagiarism was a one-time thing or else I’d be incredibly disappointed.

Obviously, the bump is related to the recent plagiarism issues, which are rather unfortunate. His views are indeed all over the map, and that makes him extremely interesting. Despite the fact that one could call him a liberal, his liberalism is similar that of many immigrants and new US citizens who have learned to see the negatives of policies that range from the extreme left to the extreme right, and look at the US from a more balanced view that defies easy labels.

It would be a shame to lose his voice on the air (or in print) for having lifted too many words from people he (obviously) admired enough to “quote.”

PS For instance, his coverage over the past years of the violence and turmoil in Mexico has been one of the best. In great contrast to the typical drivel produced by CNN.

I’m confused as to how that is obvious. Random threads get bumped all the time. I doubt very much razor or soccer created a fake account to bump this to discuss the plagiarism.
