Farmboy Chances

Just my 2 cents about your chances at:

UVA…Very Good
Cornell…Very Good
Columbia…Good
Vanderbilt…Excellent
Johns Hopkins…Very Good
Carnegie Mellon…Very Good

Again, just my humble opinion. Hope this helps.

Thanks, sounds good =) i goto school w/ cavalier302… FYI… lol

For cornell eng. the average SAT Math is 760 and average SAT Verbal is 680, so you are hurting there, not by much in math though, thats really only like 2 wrong questions off, in verbal its a lot, but your grades might, hopefully make up for it. If you live in southern virginia, you are definately into UVA. Cornell may be tough due to the SAT’s, Math IIC is good, try for the 800, you got so close. If you are applying ED to cornell you have a better shot at least. You didn’t mention other AP’s, if calc is the only one, it will be rough even if you took it in 11th grade. If you live in southern VA, i think definately UVA, otherwise it will be a little harder, but you should get in. If you have more AP’s than just Calc, that GPA means a lot, but if its a bunch of regular and Calc, its gonna be hard. My decision:
uva: in w/ or w/o unlisted ap’s
cornell: big reach w/o unlisted ap’s, maybe w/ unlisted ap’s
columbia: don’t know
vanderbilt: pretty good
johns hopkins: don’t know
cmu: definately w/ unlisted ap’s, maybe w/o unlisted ap’s

I hope that makes sense. Good luck.

AP’s by grad… chem 1, chem 2, physics c, calc ab, calc bc, us history
honors/GT by grad… alg 2 trig, precalc, earth science, biology, geopolitics

i live north of charlottesville va, southwest of dc, uva appeals because it’s about 90 minutes away

county is designated rural…

do you live in fairfax?, yeah much better chances in my mind once you mentioned the other ap’s

its physics B sorry (next term) umm my dad works there, about 45min total out 66 down route 29, thats on a no traffic day =) …Fauquier County

oh yea… i didnt mention, but i applied to duke early, but ive kinda written it off… lol i am assuming to be deferred at best…

I had to look up the word facetious, r2005. (are you one of those people who try to use SAT words in normal conversation? I bet you got an 800 on the verbal section on the SAT) I’m not completely facetious. But hey, maybe you could write an essay about living on a farm. You know how many people wish to give up their jobs and become pastry chefs and farmers and such, because they want to have a simpler life? I read this thing in Smart Money (I read it every month) about these vacations for rich people in midlife crisises and want to become a farmer or something. (Sounds suspicously like Green Acres) But if you write an essay comparing your life to Green Acres, it could be original, pertain to old people and make you seem mature and innovative simultaneously. Like talk about how people stereotype farmers and think they are foolish like on Green Acres. (This is the kind of stuff you come up with if you watch TV land too much) If you do not watch this show, start watching it!!! Man, if only I could think of this great of an essay idea for myself.

hahaha! i am going to write about living on a farm, how it has influenced my upbringing… esp. for columbias “what is most appealing about columbia” essay topic… hehe diversity diversity diversity!

bumpidy bump bump

You had to look up facetious? Sorry, that just made me laugh…it’s not that uncommon a word.

Hey, I can’t help it. I’m bad with vocab… Never be ashamed of looking up word in the dictionary, enviroman!! But seriously, you’re one of those SAT vocab geniuses or spelling bee champions, right? I know a few kids like that. When do you hear the word facetious nowadays?

i wont lie, i looked it up too, 630 verbal remember?

how about brown?

uva -instate-in
cornell-ED, 65%. RD no
columbia-ED 50%, RD no
vanderbilt-ED 75%, RD 20% chance
johns hopkins-ED 40%, RD, 1% chance
carnegie mellon-ED 70%, RD-10% chance
brown-ED-65%, RD-no

730 verbal, knew exactly what it meant. Woot woot!

umm a little harse dont ya think? vandy accepts OVER 60% of engineering applicants…

bump…

give this kid a break. 1370 is fine for rural VA. schools are looking for diversity, and you’ve also shown you are special by getting the most out of your situation by working at this engineering firm. His AP scores show that he’s pretty good at math, so I don’t think that’s a question. Good Luck at MIT, i’d give you an above-average chance there RD. However, I heard that MIT is really harsh ED, and only accepts the strongest applicants early.

haha, i appreciate the sympathy… but… those stats arent mine =) im not applying to mit, id be an autoreject… im trying to get into college, not fund somebody else’s by sending them $70 or however much.
