fashion- 70's and 80's again? just "window shopping"

Obviously things can be updated with the right pairings, accessories and shoes, but looking at these individually are like looking at things I wore decades ago. Are puffy sleeves coming back or a bit of puff with a cuff again?

And this is straight out of 1968, I swear. How cute. And it’s sold out!

What is old is new again.

Can’t say I’m loving the trend. Definitely very modest. Some of it is too Little House on the Prairie/Fundamentalist church looking, IMO.

I’ve also seen many dresses reminiscent of the Gunne Sack trend that was popular when I was in 8th grade, so I guess mid-70s.

It seemed like HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (thought I’d follow protocol), looked rather matronly in a lot of her outfits this summer at the Royal Ascot. I remember all those outfits linked and blouses and wore them (shiver). My 9th grade dance I wore a Jessica McClintock Gunne Sak dress. Baby blue. I thought I looked stunning.

I’ll be mostly watching from the sidelines.

Not loving a lot of the clothes on trend right now. I prefer less frill & fuss.

However, gimme (!!!) that houndstooth mini skirt & I’ll proudly rock that with tights, black boots & a black turtleneck (with regular straight hem).

You did. I know you did!

It’s a definite classic. IMO.

I loved those Gunne Sax dresses! And now I wonder what I was thinking. But my daughter has a friend with an Etsy vintage shop, and she sells them for big bucks, so if you’ve got one from your high school days, you might want to fund your retirement. Or at least a nice retirement dinner.

I’ve noticed that prairie ruffled sleeve edge thing for about a year. It’s hideous! I saw it in Sweden last summer so the whole world is apparently affected, or infected. It’s like Lucy and Ethel wearing the burlap sacks and thinking they’re fashion.

OTOH houndstooth never went out of fashion and never will!

I might be able to get used to the slightly gathered sleeves. They are so much more comfortable than sleeves designed for 20 year olds!

I actually still think the Gunne Saxe dresses are cute, just not on me! My not-DIL wears vintage dresses and looks cute in them.

LOL. I’m not a fashion shopper but was at a department store last week and saw a blouse sleeve I liked, pulled it out and the front was ruffled. I may have said out loud “did that in the 80’s, I’m not going there again.” In the mid-1970s in junior high in my suburban NJ town it was the height of fashion to wear wallabee shoes with Levi’s corduroy pants. I laughed so hard when I saw wallabees in several stores recently.

Wow. Oh how I yearned for a pair of Clark’s Wallabees, once upon a time.

Did they always have a slightly higher heel?

That certainly takes me back in the Way Back Machine!

I’m guessing shows like The Americans and Stranger Things are responsible for these clothes.

I walked by a display in a store this week and did a second take. I had that midi skirt (burgundy floral) in 1980. Mine, however wasn’t cheap polyester , it was wool challis and lined…I made it myself and wish I still had it to pass on to some young fashionista.
