My d is going to spend the afternoon/evening in NYC - nice restaurant, show, Rockefeller Center and who knows what else. So she has to be able to walk, and not freeze to death in December.
Fun dress! Is she planning to wear it all day - afternoon into evening??? I have to say you’ve got to do dark tights - what if there is slush and such on the sidewalks? Can’t guarantee there won’t be in December - that could be a nightmare on any light tights or bare legs! Assuming she’ll be walking a good bit. Would dark tights ruin the look?
I would say she is going to freeze in tights and a short dress unless she has an ankle length coat. If she wants to wear a dress, I would choose one that will pair with thick leggings and good walking boots.
Is she able to walk well in the boots? If she is just jumping out of Ubers/taxis to go places I would say that’s fine, but probably not if she is doing a lot of walking. Also if the boots are suede it may be a problem if there is snow or rain.
I don’t think that dress lends itself to black over the knee boots. I’d do the light beige color. I wouldn’t wear that dress during the day. At night if she’s not walking around, but just hopping from place to place she’ll be ok. Cold, but ok.
Tell her to wear black like everyone else there. Seriously, she will probably freeze and get filthy unless she is really lucky. Better to bundle up in dark colors and add accessories to suit her taste.
Cute dress…but I’m not sure that’s what she needs for a trip to NY for dinner and a show and whatever else. Frankly, she would be better off with something warm…maybe a nice sweater, and slacks or skirt…and boots. And a warm coat.
The dress just doesn’t seem practical for what she is doing. She will see all kinds of dress in NY. I personally think black over the knee boots are not right for that dress. My opinion…
Where is she going to the restaurant? Maybe that would be the deciding factor innterms of wardrobe. Really for a show, she will see lots of different levels of dress from fancy dresses to jeans.
Could she wear something like that in black? She could then wear black tights underneath the dress and a pair of low boots. She could end up walking a lot in NYC if she couldn’t get a cab or uber, and that usually happens when it is really cold. My daughters would usually wear a pair of nice pants and a dressy shirt in the winter instead of a dress like that.
She’s going to Tiffany’s. And please let me know if you need tips on getting reservations there, it was quite the ordeal. It was like winning the lottery! I’ll tell her to keep looking. She is really not one for black or pants. She looks very much like Reese Witherspoon, size and sunny disposition.
A very fun dress but, in my opinion as a resident of a close NYC suburb with a late twenty-something D who lives in the city, a bit much for a day into evening that isn’t December 31. If we have winter-type precipitation, the slush is immediate and deadly so I recommend boots that can withstand the wet. If it’s icy, she won’t want spiky heels, either. Dressing up around here in the winter seems to mean black anything (pants, skirts, sweaters, dresses) with boots and maybe a colorful necklace or scarf. As for black over-the-knee boots, I don’t see it with that dress.
My niece, an Elle Woods fan, living in NYC finds dresses she likes at that price point at Brooks Brothers and Kate Spade. As a cold natured woman from the deep south who lived near NYC for a couple of decades, I think your daughter will be most comfortable in a lined wool dress, warm tights, nonstick soled boots, and a knee or midi length wool coat or wool lined trench coat. My niece would add a dressy cardigan or jacket and scarf to the dress above. Also gloves and a hat. If she has a tissue weight cashmere scarf, that could work to cover her head and ears if she has to be outside in the cold unexpectedly.
There are other wool dresses on the Brooks Brothers site. I didn’t look at Kate Spade. If she can’t find a lined dress, she needs undergarments so the wool isn’t right on her skin.
I love her dress but the fabric won’t be warm. She might be able to find a winter white wool dress.
