Fast food restaurant ranking

I would definitely go to Wawa over fast food if I just wanted take out.

I really ought to get commission from wawa.

@megpmom My favorite local fast food is Chick Fil A. We also have several Zoe’s (greek) that’s really good. Local burger places include Rush’s - they have great chili cheeseburgers. Good local places - Lizard Thickets (meat and three chain, think Cracker Barrel), Groucho’s Deli, Yesterday’s in 5Points (student favorites). Love Doc’s Barbecue down near football stadium. Basil Thai beside Whole Foods suppose to be good. For more upscale, try Blue Marlin in Vista or Rosso in Trenholm Plaza. D likes Tsunami and Taco Sushi for sushi - both in Vista. Café Studel in W.Columbia near Riverwalk also a favorite brunch place.

If you are done moving, take time Saturday morning (9-1) and visit Soda City farmer’s market on Main St. Fresh/organic veggies/food, crafts, food trucks/stands. Crepes, waffles, donuts plus lunch stuff. There are some good downtown restaurants including Drip coffee and a raw/vegetarian place.

Two things:
It’s California not Cali
There are a thousand spots here in LA that serve up a better burger than In 'N Out.***

***see previous reference to The Habit :)>-

You mean you guys don’t enjoy being referred to as a Colombian city? hehe

It’s just that In 'N Out has such a big reputation elsewhere. But - I’ll take it from the people who have actually eaten there. Thanks!

^ This!!!

If you must abbreviate, it’s CA or Calif.

In 'N Out has the best fries. Their burgers are very good for fast food. I wish we had them in the south. My kids insist on stopping at the first In 'N Out that they see when we go back home.

We’re going to have to make a special trip to the east just to find a Wawa! lol The find locations won’t work for us, so not sure where the closest ones would be.

If you want an abbreviation other than CA or Calif., we allow the use of SoCal and NorCal (but not Frisco!).

I just don’t get the Chick-Fil-A love. I tried it twice before I knew about their politics and nobody in my family wanted them again. We have a Culver’s in town that I will visit that is nice for a cheap burger. Our fast food craving since moving has been Portillo’s. Italian Beef, Chicago Dogs, burgers and salads. They just started expanding out west.

My first trip to a fast food restaurant was to a McDonald’s in Tewksbury, MA around 1964 or 1965. All it served were 29 cent hamburgers, 39 cent cheeseburgers, filet of fish sandwiches, french fries, sodas, coffee, and milkshakes if I remember correctly.

We have an A & W car side restaurant in my town. You can order from your car and the server walks out to you with your food order (they used to roller skate to the car) and places the tray on your rolled down window. If you go inside then you can order from your table by pressing a button and talking into the speaker. Their root beer floats are hard to top and the mozzarella burgers are different. They offer a daily special. I remember going to an A & W in Oceanside, CA that sold huge Grandpa Burgers that you needed both hands to eat.

For me, my love for Chick Fil A isn’t because it has the “best chicken in town” (it isn’t). I like the taste because of peanut oil they use and compared to the other fast food places it tastes better and feels more “real”. That and their sauces. Man, any restaurant can pull me in if they have some good sauces.

I will say that Chick Fil A today isn’t as good as it was. Anyone remember when their nuggets weren’t 2"x1"x0.5" blocks? I do and I miss them so!

There may be something to that, particularly when we are talking about fast food restaurants, many of whom add more chemicals, sodium, preservatives, and trans fats than we ever would when cooking at home. I have only been to a fast food restaurant once in the last 4 months, mainly because I’m restricting carbs, sugar, and msg. But I certainly think that eating more fresh vegetables, chicken, fish, etc. prepared at home is making me feel better in a general sense as well.

I can’t lie, though; fast food can taste pretty damn good.

I don’t understand the obsession with KFC. The only food item from there that tastes good is their famous bowls. My personal favorite chicken place is Church’s.

^^ KFC has great biscuits!

True, but what chicken place doesn’t have great biscuits?

We ended up at Chick Fil A unexpectedly tonight when my youngest forgot to take his work boots in for work (not at Chick Fil A - we just met there). We passed a Five Guys along the way. They were totally empty. This is normal for them in our area regardless of the time of day (about 8:30pm in this case). Chick Fil A was roughly half full. So was Chipotle.

The chicken strips, waffle fries, and milkshake were superb. Definitely no regrets! I’ll admit I thought about this thread while I was there though.

And the freshly picked garden beets I had been cooking for our supper ended up in the freezer for winter. The rest of our dinner never got started, so no biggie with the abrupt schedule change.

@Creekland Did you try any of their sauces?

Honestly, I think I have to agree that their are three things about Chick Fil A that make it rank - the quality of their chicken (WHITE chicken!), their sauces - even the ranch is excellent! - and their milkshakes. Stellar.

What makes Five Guys great is the selection of toppings - toppings and sauces really raise the standards for me! I think I usually just get a junior size but load up the toppings. Really good fries too. But have to say, my days of eating a burger and fries are few and far between - but when I have it, it does taste yummy (at least until my stomach rebels later…)

I just stopped by one 5 guys restaurant near my work and they don’t have gluten free bun, unless you’re think just meat and fries.

The shakes!!! sighs contentedly

Yes, the quality of the white meat of Chick Fil A’s chicken is great, but also the tasty crunch of the coating…likely the result of the peanut oil and whatever they’re coating the chix with.

They also have a good sugar-free lemonade.

I wonder why Chipotle doesn’t have some decent tortilla chips. Blah and too salty.
