Father laid off, retaking ACT after graduation?

I was accepted and thought I would be going to college, but this summer after graduation, my father got laid. So now, I’m unable to attend. I will certainly reapply during this gap year and not waste time. I know that, of course, might hurt my chances. However, will retaking the ACT hurt since I’ve already graduated and hold an advantage of not having classes like high schoolers? My ACT is only 30 (1st time). I believe I can definitely raise to at least 32/33. I want to attend a better and cheaper school.

I think you mean your father got laid OFF??

Why don’t you just ask the school you were accepted to to defer enrollment for a year, or tell them about your situation and ask for more financial aid? But to answer your original question, no, I don’t think it’ll hurt.

@pmmywest YES, I mean laid OFF. The school denied aid, so I want to instead apply to cheaper and perhaps, better schools. Thank you for your answer and pointing out my mistake haha

If you do that do NOT take any college courses during your gap year. You would then be considered a transfer student at many schools.

Did you ask for a deferral so you may keep the admission in the mean time?

@"Erin’s Dad"‌ no, I will not take any courses since I believe that would complicate matters

@billcsho‌ No, I don’t think I will ever attend it anymore. Without my dad’s income, my family would not be able to cover it. Instead, I’m searching for cheaper schools. Perhaps, a better school will provide more aid if it has more endowment, so I want to improve my chances with ACT
