Father’s Day

I went sailing with my wife and a daughter to celebrate father’s day. My sailing card that I filled out during my first month of university is still on file, and is still valid. Then we went out for ice cream.

What more could a father wish for?

OK, it might be Father’s Day, but I got a present – ds2 finally introduced us via Face Time to the woman he’s been dating!

Happy Father’s Day to all who have ever fathered anybody emotionally, spiritually, pragmatically, etc!

I had a 6-hour training today but was planning on making bacon and an omelette for DH, but he wasn’t feeling well and took a pass. He did say okay to some Little Debbie donuts and milk, and was happy with the instant banana pudding that the kid and I made (DH prefers instant pudding to real homemade pudding). He’s continued the healthy day of eating with a request for potato chips and French Onion dip (picked up after the training). Perhaps he’ll dig into the shrimp cocktail that’s one of his faves, but he’s been enjoying watching the Olympic swim trials and relaxing at home.

He was a fan of the water bottle I decorated that said AMAIZEING and then FirstName in a Michigan M, and the kid made him a card that continued the maize & blue theme. He’s still unsure about the acupuncture mat we got him, but he’s been having a good day.

I have been enjoying Father’s Day weekend with Dad and his wife while 2000 miles away back at home DH celebrates with the kids. (The local kid took him for a bike ride, and then they zoomed with the other kid, and DH opened their joint gift.) It was great being able to get my Dad back to church after months away due to recovery from hip surgery. He’s doing really great for age 97 - quite sharp, still attempts NYT crossword (and does better than me, though I set a low bar).

DH returned from his road trip with his BF late this evening in one piece and reported that he did get a call from our wayward son.

Spent yesterday morning doing a 4 mile hike with my DD, SIL and 9 month old grandson. I claimed “poppa” rights and wore baby backpack. They then took me out to lunch at our favorite brewpub by their house. Idea was to give them space to develop their own traditions for today.

Today, I played soccer this morning with my usual crew, watched soccer and then picked up DW and D2 at the airport.

Our middle son, the difficult one growing up, told DH and me to go out to dinner on him and his wife last night. It was so thoughtful. We’re trying to cut expenses, and eating out has gotten so darned expensive! We didn’t get the $48 entrees, ha. Good grief. We’re not talking filet mignon, either.

Belated Happy Father’s Day to all of the CC dads!

I think we gave my H a nice one yesterday. He and I took a long bike ride in the morning, then went with D20 to his favorite microbrewery and sat in the sun, drinking beer and playing scrabble.

We then hosted both sets of grandparents for a family dinner. All in all, a good Sunday

Had a pretty good Father’s Day. Got to go workout in the mid morning. Was going to hit a bucket of golf balls but the back wouldn’t loosen up. DD who is 19, for my gift put together the grill we just bought. Let me tell you that was the best gift I have had in a long time. I really hate putting things together. FIL and SIL came over for dinner. A good homemade meal made by my DW. We ended the night with a family Facetime with DD2, DD1 who is launched and our Bonus DD3. Nice to hear what all is going on with the girls.
