Father’s Day

Cheers :clinking_glasses: to the dads here on CC, to our own dads or fathers in laws who influenced us, to sons or SILS who are dads, men who have taken on the role of a father figure - and any other “dad” out there!

What do CC dads like to do on this day?

Are you doing anything special to celebrate today?

Have a special or funny memory of a past Father’s Day?

Happy Father’s Day!!

Wow. Totally forgot today is Father’s Day. DH got up at the crack of dawn to pick up his BF and head to MA with the trailer hitched to our SUV to pick up an old piece of shop equipment BF plans to refurbish. They will then have to ferry the piece to BF’s cottage on the island. DH won’t be home until late tonight.

Maybe next year?

(We took my dad out to dinner in AZ before we left for ME a couple of weeks ago. I should probably call him, though. Thanks for the reminder.)

Happy father’s day!
My DH always wants to go for dim sum, so that’s what we will do this morning, when he gets back from his run.

DH wanted, for Father’s day, to get me my long promised and long overdue new ipad and case with backlit keyboard (note to anyone who cares, the Apple case/keyboard for the new ipad pro is not backlit- we got the logitech case). What a guy. Likes to give to others on his day. He does this on his birthday too.

While he isn’t a camera guy, today, after researching and talking to friends, he will purchase a camera today for our upcoming safari. So, that will be his day, after dim sum. He doesn’t like to shop, so it isn’t his ideal way to spend the day, but we are heading
out of town soon for another trip and he wants to try out the camera.

My oldest had a fair to perform at so she and her sister are in lake George. She has a sick cat so he is his at her apartment until later tonight. My other daughter, niece and son are going to join him today because she lives a 5 minute walk to the beach. My other son went to upstate NY with friends. We will try again next weekend! We have a very old fig tree (50ish) that has really stopped producing much, so the kids are going to buy him a new one in a pot. We used to get tons of figs, I had to donate a lot.

We will have a cookout and swim today with S/DIL who are in town. Steak and shrimp on the grill, cheesy potatoes, salad, stuffed mushrooms.

I’m being entertained by my 3 kids this morning on our family text thread where they are sharing stories of car trips with their dad (my H) and all the shenanigans he would make part of the car ride. During a long trip he would give their stuffed animals voices and basically do an off the cuff story time via car. How he would report any traffic backups when we were driving in the Detroit area (often) and use their names which would be announced on the local radio station - “Tipster Child’s Name, says there is a mile back up on I-75!”. How he sometimes couldn’t put his law enforcement background away and once always got in a fight with someone you DON’T want to get in a fight with at night in a less than desired area of town.

The dad stories never end!

Happy Father’s Day to all fathers and grandfathers! Kids took us for weekend at luxury resort at the beach with them and their SO. Love it!

“Fathers” come in all forms, and at different times in our lives. If you’ve ever been a father, to a human, to a pet, to a stranger, this message is for you…thank you for stepping up, stepping out, and stepping forward. In my opinion, not one of us has enough “parents” in our lives. People who love us, who nurture us, who guide us. So thank you “fathers” and especially the mothers who also had to be “fathers” - Happy Father’s Day.

Dollars to donuts DS has no clue what day today is either and won’t think to call. DH and I have a rule not to ever prompt DS to call the other on BDs or holidays. Maybe his new wife thinks differently…

Low key day here. I imagine the kids will all call their dad - they’re good about that.

I need to call my dad, who is still in the hospital. We’re thankful he’s on the mend and will not need surgery.

My DH will get calls from our kids, and call his own. The phone calls are the only important part for him. Our DiL does the NYT mini in a race with DH every morning (they report their score to each other and gloat); today in the mail he received a crossword puzzle she made for him of their favorite stupid clues <3

Today is my first Father’s Day without my dad. I am coincidentally at my childhood house so I went out and rehabbed all his roses in the front yard, and I paid for a dad’s coffee at the donut place this morning on the way to see my mom (newly in assisted living)

I have to admit that I am really weepy today. This is my fourth without my dad but my first without my dad or mom, and for some reason I am so sad.

Dh had to work today so the boys and I are having to coordinate the annual FaceTime. Both sons are out of town for work, and one’s in a different time zone so it’s been a challenge, but I will make dh breakfast in bed (our tradition) but for dinner, while he talks to the guys. Ds1 took care of ordering the present, which I still need to wrap.

Both kids have texted. We will be going to D and SIL’s house later for dinner (takeout).

Happy Fathers Day to all the cc Dads and Grandpas.

I received “Happy Father’s Day” from S and D this morning as I was having coffee. S was sitting the United terminal at SFO on his way to tech conference in Seattle. D was on her way to a volunteer job at a Pittsburgh hospital (on top of her M-F internship at a surgery clinic).

As I sipped my coffee I felt the pride of a father on Father’s Day. I texted them back to let them know that.

Now you have to report back and let us know if he calls.

We celebrated yesterday (I made a favorite dinner and we did presents at our house), so my step-d and her SO could do something with his dad (who is battling cancer) today.

D and GD came over for a few hours (SIL’s brother took SIL & their dad to brunch). GD sprayed her grandpa with the hose and had a wonderful time. S will come over later for pizza - he had to mow his lawn today, and he’s not an early riser on weekends. He lives about an hour & a quarter away - not far, but just out of the close, easy drive range.

I bought a baklava tray, which has been a hit. D took some home to SIL - we have an abundance of Arabic bakeries in our area, and the one I went to is his favorite.

My dad has been gone almost 12 years, and H’s has been gone more than 3. H will try to call his mom, but she rarely answers the phone anymore. I need to call my brother who is a dad - he’s always good about wishing me a happy Mother’s Day.

H, DS, and GS went to a baseball game today. Our hometown team is playing DS’s adopted team. It is the first ball game for 2 year old GS. They’re all having a ball and the pictures are priceless.
