this thread does speak to me…
chinaberry, penelope leach…ferber… wouldn’t it be funny if we did list top ten hints on raising kids and these items made the list? ferber suggested reducing the middle of the night bottle 1 oz a nite to reduce the child’s nighttime feeding experience…it worked like a charm, vs trying to go from 8oz to 0oz overnight… I remember reading spock who said all kids need to suck and so a pacifer was ok…but about 5-6 mos, a baby will spit it out, THAT was the moment to not put it back…and it worked perfectly for us with both kids…

back to favorite kids books… we have newish neighbors that are having their families now…so we had a baby shower for the first family… and what we had was a children’s book shower… lots of great books… and then that family had one for the next family to have a baby in the neighborhood and this time, the range of books was even wider…and all the ladies in the neighborhood really seem to enjoy it…it is a nice way to celebrate the newest addition and it is “affordable” even for the seniors in the area… I was surprised at how few of the books that I consider classics are even available.

My HS junior is taking a public speaking class right now… and they had to bring in their favorite kids book…he ended up bringing in Little Bear’s Trousers which is a WONDERFUL story…and I think it is now out of print… so sad…

My kids always really liked Rainbow Fish. I happily read it to them over & over. The other day, though, I read it to a kindergarten class. I finished it & all I could think was, “There’s your socialist book for the day.”

Oh, I have to resurrect this thread. Chinaberry + Hanna Andersson + College Confidential. Who would have suspected THAT connection? But it does make a modicum of sense. I don’t think I bought either of my kids an article of clothing from anywhere but the Hanna Catalog until they were four years old, and both of them wore them for years, until they complained of looking dorky! Now Hanna has sold out – a brick-and-mortar store is at the local mall. I still get Chinaberry catalogues regularly, and I always send books from Chinaberry as new baby gifts. I would have paid good money for the catalog alone back in the day.

Anybody remember “Sun’s Up”? Our all time favorite Chinaberry offering. A wordless book with illustrations that reminded me of Provence.
