@SouthernHope …I love Home for the Holidays so much I bought the DVD…timeless! Although I would say that’s more Thanksgiving.
We have a stack of old Christmas classics. In addition to most of the ones listed:
March of the Wooden Soldiers (Laurel and Hardy)
The Little Drummer Boy
Babes in Toyland
My favorite kids’ movies are probably The Year Without a Santa Claus (Heat Miser!) and Grinch. The regular movies I look forward to most are Elf and It’s a Wonderful Life.
The thing I always look for on tv is the Festivus episode of Seinfeld.
@Magnetron I was just going to put A Year Without a Santa Claus because they just played the Heat Meiser/ Snow Meiser song. That one is awesome.
Thanks for getting the Heat Miser Song earworm going…
Okay for all the Christmas Vacation fans, you have to watch Funny Farm - another Chevy Chase movie when he was in his prime.
Love the heat miser song!
We like many of the ones already mentioned, but here are two obscure ones that our twenty somethings still ask to watch on old VHS:
Muppet Family Christmas–every muppet you can imagine show up at Fozzy’s mom’s house for an old fashioned Christmas.
Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree–Robert Downey Jr (who appears to be stoned), Leslie Neilson and Stockard Channing.
Thanks everyone!
My all time favorite is White Christmas, with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
I am not surprised to see so many of you list A Christmas Story, but I just can’t “get” that one. Translation, I kind of hate it. However, I will share with those who are fans, in case you don’t know, that Fox is doing a live version of this with some big names sometime this month. Not sure when, as it’s not on my viewing list. Hope the fans will enjoy if they are so inclined.
I know it’s not what you mean, but to me, “Christmas movie” means blockbusters released at around Christmas time, like the Lord of the Rings movies and the current Star Wars sequels. I have lots of good family memories that center around seeing those movies, but not a single one related to a movie with an actual Christmas theme.
Who remembers watching The House Without a Christmas Tree on TV?

I have not seen it in decades but remember it as my favorite Christmas TV special.
