Favorite Christmas Movies

There were just on this weekend:

The Holiday
The Last Holiday
Family Man

mom2, I took her to the FAO Schwartz… I told her that was as close as she was gonna get, haha!

I love “It’s A Wonderful Life”, but my kids don’t.

D & I really like “Love Actually”.

Our family watches “White Christmas” together every year because we all like it, even H.

Got to agree with SamuraiLandshark - “The Ref”.

In a more traditional vein, I will almost never pass up watching “White Christmas”

The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek

“A Christmas Story” is absolutely my favorite Christmas movie. Followed closely by “Christmas Vacation,” and “Love Actually.” I have honestly never seen “It’s A Wonderful Life”!

Also, although not technically a movie, Jim Henson’s “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas” is something from my childhood that we watch with our (now teenage) kids each year. Such a sweet story!

Tokyo Godfathers
In Bruges

One of these is really heartwarming, the other is really violent.

More traditional faves are White Christmas, and Christmas in Connecticut.

The Shop Around the Corner

The best Jimmy Stewart Xmas movie and inspiration for several newer romantic comedies.

^^^ Excellent call, skeets - thanks for the reminder!

No one has mentioned Meet Me in Saint Louis. That’s where Judy Garland sings Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas to a crying Margaret O’Brien. I’m pretty sure I know the dialogue by memory.

It’s not Christmas until I’ve seen “White Christmas” with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. I just love that old movie. My DH and DD don’t really appreciate old movies, so I usually watch that one alone, but we always watch “A Christmas Story” together.

IloveLA, your post sparked my memory. One of my husband’s favorites is John Ford’s Three Godfathers.

It’s a Wonderful Life (Christmas Eve, while wrapping the last of the packages)
Elf (soon after D gets home from school)
A Christmas Carol (the one with George C. Scott)
Home Alone (H loves this one)
A Christmas Story (my brag: I saw this in the theater during its original release)

Oh, how could I forget! Nobody can blow things up on Christmas Eve like Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Gotta have a few explosions with your eggnog.

To kick off the holiday season:
Planes, Trains & Automobiles.
Youtube: Those aren’t pillows
Funny funny

batilo: Best.Movie.Ever. (it was one of my picks on the “guilty pleasures” thread.)

I want a car. Right.Now.

John Candy-underrated comedic/dramatic actor
RIP big guy

farfallena, that makes sense-- I didn’t know about the John Ford movie, but apparently it was part of the inspiration for Tokyo Godfathers.
Here’s a review of Tokyo Godfathers, I really do recommend it.

White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, et. al. My daughters have been watching it since these were very young and now make a big production out of watching it together. They sing along with all the songs, especially “Sisters”. My son-in-law cracked up watching them the first time he saw their routine.

Of course, A Christmas Story, but I also like the really old Heidi, w/ Shirley Temple.
