I love the music and story from ‘the Holiday’.

I second “The Bishop’s Wife” with Cary Grant. So classy!

What was the movie called that I used to watch every year with the little girl whose mother had died and her dad refused to have a Christmas tree? OMG…how I cried every time!! That little girl was a pretty famous actress at that time, but I can’t remember her name now. Help me out!

Nicksmtmom, was it “The House Without a Christmas Tree” with Jason Robards and Lisa Lucas as the girl?

Yes…awww! That was always my fave as a kid…

Christmas Vacation is the big one in our family.

Love it, Love Chevy Chase!

I still laugh out loud when the squirrel jumps out of the Christmas Tree.

Monty Python Life of Brian

I love a newer movie called Holliday in Handcuffs with Melissa Joan Hart and Mario Lopez. I also love Love Actually. I have seen both many times.

My favorite as a kid was “Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol.” Dated animation now, but some very nice songs. My brothers and I used to hide behind the couch when the Ghost of Christmas Past came on - it was terrifying!

^^^ Of course I really mean The Ghost of Christmas Future - the Ghost of Christmas Past character was a rather unthreatening cherub. It’s sad when the brain starts to go …

Yay!!! That’s my favorite movie at Christmas time! Whenever any of my daughters are grumpy, one of us will start singing “I hate people…” Gets a smile and at least momentary relief every time!

I’ve never seen The Christmas Story. What year was it made?

EDIT: I just realized we actually HAVE *A Christmas Story *on DVD. I’ve never watched it. It’s the one with the blonde haired kid with glasses on the cover, right?

The best thing about “A Christmas Story” is that it was written and narrated by Jean Shepherd, who used to tell the most wonderful stories on the radio; he worked in other media as well. I remember him from the 70s. Look him up!

Glad to see that I’m not the only one who considers Die Hard with Bruce Willis a Christmas movie. Though I’d have to include Die Hard II and the first Lethal Weapon. Off the traditional path, yes. I will add that we do watch/own many of the ones already mentioned.

Our town has a renovated early 20th century movie theater on Main St. that is now used for concerts, plays, etc.
Tomorrow it will be showing the original 1939 movie version of “A Christmas Carol” all day long for $5. We’re going…should be fun.

I’ve been watching the five hour television version of Fanny and Alexander. The “first act” is the most marvelous evocation of the Christmas Eve celebration of a wealthy Swedish family in Uppsala in 1907.

I hope this link works for all you A Christmas Story fans. It’s from our local paper.

Anyone remember Muppet Family Christmas? Every muppet character you can imagine show up unexpectedly at Fozzie’s mom’s house for an old fashioned Christmas in the country?

We have a worn VHS copy that kids (now 22, 19, 17) must watch when we are all together!
