Favorite Convenience Food

So, I love reading and collecting recipes, but I really don’t like cooking. I could probabley live off cold cereal, smoothies, and pizza. No child on mine will ever list “mom’s cooking” as one of the things they miss about home.

That said, I’m getting bored of my stand-by convenience foods. I read about someone’s favorite Progresso soup on a soup recipe thread and added it to my grocery list. Any other suggestions?

Do you like Indian food? Tasty Bite makes pretty good tasting, easy to heat pouches.

I think I picked up some of that brand at Costco, but D got to it before I could. Will buy again; thanks!

My D who doesn’t cook also buys Tasty Bites. She also buys several of the Indian and Mexican frozen Amy’s meals. She also likes frozen Amy’s pesto bowl. Amy’s products are vegetarian.

Trader Joes sells indian food in their freezer section affordably priced. All you have to do is microwave it or heat it in the toaster oven.

We love a hot pot of rice and Dinty Moore beef stew. The ingredient list is significantly better than many other cans, but my sibs scorn it and make fun of me.

My D likes pretty much anything by Amy’s. There’s a frozen pizza in the freezer right now, in fact. Kashi also makes some “healthy” convenience foods. I think they started out making cereal but also have a line of frozen foods. We all like the Morning Star Farms line-my two older kids got hooked on their “chix patties” when my ex went vegetarian, but the “burgers” and breakfast foods are also good. Note-we are not vegetarian, but all three of the above seem to make my kids happy when they want to forage during the day.

For myself, I like to do egg dishes-I have a little container that makes a microwave round “Egg McMuffin” shaped egg, and I’ll put that on an English Muffin, or I’ll make an omelet with whatever I have in the fridge. Sometimes I just do over easy and mop it up with toast.

Oh @raclut what I wouldn’t do for a Trader Joes in Hawaii! Growing up with a single dad in southern California, we pretty much survived off their freezer section.

@palm715 I think doing some preparation on the weekends by planning meals and cutting up vegetables beforehand might help preparing quick meals on the weekdays. Another thing you could do is make dishes in a slow cooker so that you just turn it on in the morning and then it is ready by dinner time. I found this chart that might be of help.

One of my daughters loves pierogis, which are sold frozen. They’re very easy to prepare. Both daughters like Indian snacks, also sold frozen. I get them at an Indian market.

Bless you @raclut for having more faith in me than I have in myself. I’m currently eating my brunch of Triscuits smeared with cream cheese and pesto and my tried-and-true smoothie. That is the high-end of my skill set. Thank goodness for the kids sake their Dad can cook.

@palm715 @raclut beat me to it…your slow cooker is your friend! Add a meat, salt/pepper/spice, and a liquid (broth, or creamy soups) and veggies during the last hour, and you’ve either got stew or soup, or shredded meat for tacos, quesadillas, etc. Try Pinterest for ideas. You’ve got this girl!

My favorite frozen food is Marie Callenders Chicken and Broccoli Fettuccine. Yum
