I have Candy Crush. Something that can be played reasonably well without making in-app purchases.
I have an I-phone

Here are some of my favorites: Plants vs Zombies 2, 1010!, Alphabear, TripleTown, Toy Blast, MatchDots, Dots and Co.

I never make any in-app purchases, but these are still fun to play.

I love Word Cookies, Fairway Solitaire Blast (cool variations on regular Solitaire), and Angry Birds Pop (not like regular AB). I’ve been playing all of these for quite awhile and don’t get bored.

My very favorite is Castle Story. Fun storyline and attractive graphics. I also like Frozen Mania (not that Frozen) and Hungry Babies.

Card Shark
If you love solitaire type card games this is for you. It features about 40 different games. Has tons of solitaire variations, rummy games, canasta, and poker too. I’ve had it for years and it is my favorite.

I go through periods of getting addicted to Wheel of Fortune on the phone or Ipad. However, it’s tough to avoid buying tickets. You have to pace yourself.

I sometimes play Euchre and cribbage. Both were free and are fairly mindless. H & I play Pokémon Go, but you have to move around for that, so not suitable for an airplane.

Eight Ball Pool. Incredibly addicting, however, so beware. I play it on my phone and on my desktop. I have to block myself from the internet sometimes because I can’t stop playing it!
