Favorite Quotation question

Does this essay have to be about a famous quotation that you’d find on the internet at quotes.com or something? I have an essay that starts off with a quote by my sensei about some “deep meaning” to karate, and the rest of the essay is about how I made sense of that quote, including a personal experience of it. Can I use this?

I’m sure that’s fine, man.

bump…?

that sound way more interesting than a cliched essay about some over-used einstein quote, or something…

But it’s not really my “favorite quote” though. It’s just something he used to say over and over again and I never understood until one point when I did. Will they see through that?

Also, how do you introduce the quote? Are you all just having the quote above the essay? Mine is like this:

“…[insert quote here]…,” my sensei used to say. “[continue with explanation of quote],” he explained, “…”

bump…!

Sorry I have to bump this up one more time…
