Favorite restaurants

My parents are coming up to NYC for a few days. Which restaurants should I take them to? I live in the Financial District, but I would be open to trying something new in Midtown or Uptown. What are some good or well-known places (anywhere in Manhattan)?

Can’t talk about restaurants without talking about money. How much do you want to spend per person?

need a cuisine, too. or if it makes it easier, what your family would NOT like eating.

Any cruisine, and in a variety of price ranges?

If you want to do the touristy thing with your parents, then there are some very nice restaurants in the theater district. When i am heading to the city I have found this website helpful in finding restaurants with reviews and ratings as well as the different districts of the city and by cuisine.
They also have the “best of yelp.”

Are your parents funky or stodgy? If they’re like, total tourists, they’ll enjoy going to the Oyster Bar at Grand Central Station. If they’re more funky, they might like to have Indian food on 6th Street, or eat in one of the Momo***u places. If they’re rich funky, maybe WD-50. Our favorite recent meal in New York was sushi at Jewel Bako.

Note: those asterisks should be an f, followed by a u, and then a k.

Maloney & Porcelli (but it’s on the pricier side)
La Bonne Soupe
Symposium
Cafe des Artistes (also on the pricier side)
Four Seasons (also on the pricier side)
Yaffa Cafe/Cafe Orlin/Cafe Mogador (they’re all on the same EV block)
Sarabeth’s (any location, though I prefer the one on Central Park)
Cafe Habana
Cafeteria

…and that’s all I can think of for now. As someone else suggested, poke around Yelp for a bit, as you can search by neighborhood, price, and cuisine with ease.

my favorites when I went to check out the campus in nyu were
Lombardis pizza
Manhattan diner
Greys papaya [super cheap]
ruby tuesdays at times square

I was extremely dissapointed with:
Uncle niks [greek]
serendipity 3

Thanks for the responses. :)

What famous, upscale places would you recommend for a celebratory dinner? And what dishes are good there? I’m looking into Butter right now because I heard that they’re continuing their Restaurant Week prices… Has anyone been there before? (If it’s too pricey, I might just go with friends instead. :))

Also, on an unrelated note, what restaurants are good in Chinatown?

Depends on what you want in Chinatown.

My favorite place down there is Big Wong’s - it’s absolutely authentic Chinese. The wait staff’s a little rude, the decor is just slightly better than a fast food joint, but the food comes quickly, is very reasonably priced, and is always tasty.
