Favorite tips and tricks to get 700+ on Critical Reading?

Hey guys,

I somehow can't get past a score of 660 on Critical Reading, and, because my GPA and class rank aren't as high as I'd like, I need scores of at least 700 on all 3 sections to stand a chance at the colleges I'm applying to.

What are your favorite tips for acing this section?

Earn as many points on SC as possible (because for me, passage-based questions are b****es). I'm not into memorizing vocab (though I'm currently learning the words in Direct Hits), but I find that determining connotation of the blanks helps a lot when attempting to eliminate choices. Here's an example (simple one that I made up):

She was really ______ when she heard the noise downstairs while she was asleep alone at home.

You know that the blank has to be a word along the lines of "scared," and that it has a negative connotation. With that, you can eliminate words you know (or words whose connotations you can determine based on roots, etc.) that don't fit the bill and increase your chances of guessing correctly (or even find the correct choice while not recognizing any of the other words).
