Just want to point out that evaporative cooling doesn’t work well in humid climates.

Yes, but for me it’s for travel and most places I travel to aren’t nearly as humid as here. By the way, evaporative cooling works somewhat here. H has a hst the relies upon it. He doesn’t use that feature too often as it makes his head cold—Haha!

I am loving this thread. Husband and I have exclusively traveled carryon since a RickSteves trip in 2017. We usually do casual trips or stay in airbnb’s with washers. However, this spring we are doing a 10 day NCL cruise in Europe and it may be difficult to do carry-on only given the variety of ports/day trips and dressier evening activities. We have cruised a few times before but could never do carry-on only on trips longer than 5 days. Any tips would be welcome.

I was incorrect, so I’m removing the post -

We did a 14 day NCL Baltic cruise with just carry on and a back pack as the personal item. Definitely doable if you plan ahead. I wear my bulkiest shoes on the plane, pack other shoes, toiletries, and accessories in the backpack. In the carry on suitcase I make sure I have a tight, mix and match color palette with quick dry, wrinkle free fabrics (think Chico’s traveller’s collection). I also bring Fabreeze refresh spray.

Check out the discussion threads on cruise critics website. On one cruise line (Princess?) / Itinerary in 2016 we learned they would offer a midweek special for $25 laundry bag service. For us it was worth it to pack less and spurge for laundry service.

Last year on a Viking River cruise (plus other self travel) we did carry on luggage. That meant doing some hand wash of underwear, socks and some lightweight tops for me. We splurged for laundry service for some of my husband’s polo shirts ($6.50 each).
