Friend tells me she got friend request from me. She was already a FB friend. Does anyone know what’s going on here and what I have to do?
Google it. It’s a scam. The emails/messages are not real. She didn’t get a FB request from you. However, accounts can be cloned and will especially be targets if your Friends list privacy setting is not set to “Friends Only”. If it is public, you are at risk for being cloned. It is NOT a hack.
I heard about this on the news last night - it’s a hoax (no bugs or viruses).
I spent the last two days imploring people to stop calling it a hack and stop sharing it.
I was wondering if any one would start a thread about this.
It’s a hoax.
Here…read this…
Folks are sharing a message they are getting…and they are being told to share it with their whole friend list. One person I know sent that message to over 200 people.
It was all over the news too.
Don’t send that message anywhere. It’s garbage.
If you are concerned…change your passwords.
Go into settings under privacy and check to see if anyone other than you has signed into your account. Easy peasy.
I can’t beleive how many of my friends have sent that hoax to me.
So saying it a hoax is a hoax itself?
The message currently being forwarded by gullible folks is a hoax. However, duplicate accounts (clone accounts) do get created on facebook. You see it regularly. Once people finally figure out and accept that the current wave of messages is “fake”, I wouldn’t want people to ignore the risk of an actual clone account. It is easy to do a search on your own name, and hopefully only one account (your own) shows up. If a second account shows up - same name, and same profile picture, then you should notify facebook, and maybe even warn your friends.
