Hey CCers!

I work for a nonprofit, Future Civic Leaders, that runs a free (yes, free!) Leadership Conference in DC each summer. This is not your typical expensive conference, its a completely free program that is non-partisan and paid for by donors and grants. Yes, this means its more competitive, but the quality of the program is amazing.

I’m here to answer any questions you have. You can read more and apply at Summer.FutureCivicLeaders.org

Below is a description:
Future Civic Leaders 2010
Have you ever wanted to run your own campaign for congress? This conference will give you that chance! All participants will be split into small teams. You will take a role such as candidate or campaign manager, and spend the conference making sure that your candidate gets elected. Instead of just listening to speakers, you will be advised by real political operatives. For example, on the day when the you have to write speeches, a white house speechwriter will come and talk about speechwriting, and when you have to work on fundraising, lobbyists and fundraisers will discuss how to set a budget. Confirmed speakers so far include CNNs Ed Henry, and Congressman Jared Polis with many more to be announced. Students who are low-income, lower-middle class, or otherwise disadvantaged are invited to apply.

The campaign is not just a fun simulation, but an avenue for active learning! The conference will culminate in an “election night celebration” where results will be announced and you will celebrate your accomplishments and dance the night away! Spend four days of your summer at this free, fun, and exciting leadership camp!
The application for the 2010 Leadership Conference is now online! The application is due May 15th and admissions are rolling. So the sooner you apply, the better your chances are.
