Fear of Writing

I have recently been ignited by a passion to read (wish I had this drive during high school), but I’ve always carried the fear of criticism with him as I try to write on my own. I’m going to apply as a transfer student from my CC soon, and I’ll have to address my writing dilemma. I can’t see myself writing as well as Kurt Vonnegut, or Aldous Huxley, as I want admission readers judge my inner core.

Any tips on how to drastically improve at writing? I know I’ll never become better if I don’t practice, but I hate reading the crap that I write, as I compare myself to far better writers.

Read “On Writing Well” by William Zinsser and “The Elements of Style” by E.B. White. Try to implement their ideas and embrace your writing. Even professional authors criticize each others’ writing, so you have to learn to live with the criticism and embrace it as a positive force.
