Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEAA)

Does anyone have any experience with the FEEA? I’ve been employed by the federal government for 25 years. So naturally, when my daughter was accepted to college, she applied for the FEEA scholarship program. The FEEA makes it very clear on the application and directions that all required material must be included in the package, otherwise the application will not be considered.

I tripled checked that all of the required material was present prior to mailing. In fact, I even had a co-worker go through the material as I read off the checklist of what was required to be included in the application packet. I went to the post office - and checked for the third time - that all of the material was present before I sealed the envelope.

Lo and behold, 3 months later, we receive a letter that my D’s application will not be considered because it was missing the essay. It was there!!

I left a voice mail message with FEEA and also sent an email, asking that they check once again. But it makes me wonder how many other people are told there is missing material, when in fact it’s all there.

Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated. It would be one thing if she was considered and didn’t receive anything. But it’s a completely different matter when the saludatorian of a class of 250 students, 4.5 GPA, all AP classes, great SAT scores, lots of extra-cirricular activities and work won’t even be considered because they lost the essay!

To say this is frustrating is an understatement.

That is very unfortunate, at what times are you calling them? Have you tried calling them in the morning?

I just opened the letter when I returned home from work this evening. It was 4:30 pm Colorado time. I am upset since we followed their instructions down to the last detail and then received a letter saying she’s disqualified for a false reason. If her essay is missing, it’s because they lost it. Their instructions specifically said not to staple anything. I made a point to ensure that my daughter’s name appeared on every single page in the event the packet become separated. Who knows, maybe a stack of papers would fall on the floor. I didn’t want my daughter penalized for that. Foreshadowing, I suppose.

I can only hope they will re-examine her application packet and discover that her essay is in fact present and accounted for.

But I’m wondering if anyone else out there has had this problem with FEAA? And if they too had that problem, what did they do?

YAY Me! I got a scholarship and I am moving on to the next round!! woop woop!!
