Federal Loan for Truck Driving School?

Hello,

I know this is not a ‘normal’ financial aid question, but I have got such great feedback here before so I thought I would give it a shot!

Does anyone know the guidelines of using Stafford or other Federal Loans for Truck Driving School? There are a lot of them out there, and they can range from 2-6 months in length and then some “on the road training” too.

If traditional funding is not available for this type of school, what other options are out there other than the ‘direct school lending’ which can be a bit expensive?

Thanks for the help,

Ask the schools financial aid office. All the federal aid has to go through them. You can’t apply on your own.

It really all depends on the school if they participate in the federal aid programs or not. So you will need to ask them.

My local Community college offers truck driving. It’s a 7 week program, 8 hour days. There is some state aid, but no other financial aid. The cost is $1200. Yours may have something similar.

Another way to go is to sign up with a company who will teach you. Some will charge around 4-5000 dollars and you need yo commit to work for them for a year or two. Other companies waive or refund the fee after the employment obligation is met. Some may expect some money up front.

You must be 21 or older, and have a clean driving record in order to get a CDL.
