In the past, students could borrow half the annual loan limit in a semester, even if their enrollment dipped below the school’s definition of full-time. The One Big Bill changed that, and students whose enrollment is even a credit below the full time definition must have their loan amount reduced. This is an FAQ that the government just released. Because financial aid offices have not received clear guidance until now, some students may find that their current aid (for the award year starting on or after July 1) may be reduced. It’s also important to understand how loan amounts will be affected going forward if a student will not be enrolled full time. https://fsapartners.ed.gov/sites/default/files/2026-08/FAQReducingAnnualLoanLimitsLessthanFullTimeEnrollment.pdf
