Federal Pell Grant / ACG Grant Question

<p>For a freshman student, I understand the max. Fed Pell Grant is $5,550 and the max. ACG Grant is $750.</p>

<p>Question: are these amounts independent of each other? In other words, is it possible for a freshman to get $6,300 in federal grants or is the amount of federal grants capped at $5,550?</p>

<p>Perhaps someone can verify this but I thought the ACG was disappearing after this year.</p>

<p>Thumper is correct. The ACG (and the SMART grant) will no longer exist after the 2010-2011 school year.</p>

<p>The maximum Pell is currently $5550. The maximum is only available to students with a 0 EFC. As the EFC goes up the amount of Pell goes down.</p>

<p>But for the current year the student can receive both the pell and the ACG.</p>
