I did my taxes on Saturday with TurboTax, and just got an email that my return was accepted. It looks like they got things up and running early. It did say they would not start processing refunds until the 30th. Nice surprise though.

long form software available?

We filed 1040, I know there are still some forms outstanding, in which case I believe you would not even be able to file. Our financial life is pretty simple.

Thanks…we have our tax appt on 1/31 and hoping the long form software is available from IRS early. Originally told it would be available 2/1…so hoping it is early too!

Still waiting for documents but I can do DS’s taxes now I guess!

Mine was accepted too!

Yep…did sons and ours also using Turbo Tax on Saturday got texts today confirming both accepted.

still waiting on a W2 here, so probably won’t have to worry about if the IRS is ready or not.

fortunately don’t have to file for any of our kids, they have no income.

Hold off till mid-Feb if you plan to claim education breaks such as American Opportunity Credit, Lifetime Learning

I’m getting ready to file my taxes this week. Almost done just waiting on one W2 which should get here tomorrow. I qualify for a small credit for tuition. If I file now, won’t my refund just get delayed? is there a reason why I shouldn’t file until mid-Feb?

^^ they won’t process your form until their computer system is up to date. It depends on if you can even file or not–they might not be taking forms that have deductions for things that are not up to date on their system. You can try and see what it says though.

SteveMA is correct - sounds like form 8863 needs to be updated in their system.

Hmmm interesting. Good to know.

Speaking of taxes…does anyone know if the interest on Series EE savings bond is taxe free if used to pay tuition and if so how that needs to be documented? Disclosure: bonds have been cashed, statement received showin interest earned, and tuition already paid.
Thanks all the accountants out there and knowledgeable parents!

My three brokerage firms won’t have their stuff until possibly the end of February. So no early filing for us.
