Federal Vision Insurance?

Anyone out there have any thoughts/experiences with the FEDVIP vision options? I am thinking of adding vision coverage. I’m looking for pros and cons for the various programs and High vs. Low options.
TIA

I would add up the costs of the premium vs the costs it covers. When I checked it out, it was cheaper to just pay for services as needed than buy the vision coverage, YMMV.

It is not great insurance, but it doesn’t cost very much either. If you get an eye exam and one pair of glasses, I think you break even or maybe come out ahead. Two pairs of glasses? You are ahead.

My ophthalmologist visits are covered by insurance, and I’ve never had the fed vision insurance. I do the dental though.

I have had the dental for quite a while; eye exams have a modest co-pay. I just wonder if I wouldn’t procrastinate so much on getting new glasses if it wasn’t such a large outlay at one time.

I worked for an agency with great medical choices, great dental choices, and the standard (not so great) vision. It was still okay. They paid for an exam each year, frames every other year, and lenses every year plus I think computer lenses every other year? I think it was under $4/mo for the family, so $48 per year? and it covered 3 of us for exams.

My cheapest option is $6/month; I need to plug in my Rx and see what glasses cost with insurance vs Costco or Warby Parker without the plan.

Costco may not take vision insurance but in any case gives you the paperwork so you can submit the claim. My folks have vision coverage with their state insurance plan and I can’t remember how coverage was handled.

Yes, I used Costco and had to submit my own claims.

$6/mo is only $72/yr. It would seem that if it only covered one pair of glasses that would be worth it.

Costco filled out the hearing aide form I submitted to fed bc/bs. I don’t have vision insurance. I don’t want to be limited in choices of providers or frames.

Our Costco takes VSP and runs the claim on the spot.

@mominva, You could always call the place where you get your glasses and ask them what the best plan for your situation is. they might be able to tell you. When anyone in my family gets glasses, we are always told how good our insurance is. Since I have a strong prescription and their are other items added to my lenses (coatings, etc), my pair of glasses is over $600 without insurance.
