I am a current Kelley freshman and overall I am very happy here. If you got invited to Hutton, you shouldn’t have much trouble with the freshman courses. I am also in Hutton, and I will hopefully finish with an A- in one class and A’s in the rest. I am taking 2 honors classes, and those are manageable and not too difficult. I used ratemyprofessor to choose my professors, and they have been good overall. I would say my 3 Kelley professors are better than my 2 non-Kelley professors, but all are willing to help and very knowledgeable in their subject area.
The food quality depends on where you live. Many business students live in the Kelley LLC, which has a convenience store in the building, but it has limited meal options. It is a bit like a grocery store, but it does have good sandwiches and soup. It is also closest to the worst dining hall on campus, which isn’t very good. Overall, the food is quality is decent, and the prices are pretty high, but the standard meal plan should give you enough points. It’s also difficult to find healthy options except fruit and the salad bar.
I’m not the greatest person at making friends, so it was a huge benefit for me that I already knew a ton of people before coming here from high school. My floor is sort of quiet, but I don’t live in the LLC. I do spend a lot of time with friends in the LLC though, and it seems very social and easy to make friends there.
The campus also has a huge drinking culture. If you want to drink, it will almost always be available, but nobody will force you to drink if you don’t want to. I haven’t had any alcohol and neither have many of my friends, but I do personally know someone that went to the hospital for drinking too much, and another that may have literally died if he didn’t have friends there helping him. This isn’t a deal-breaker for me, but it is something to consider. I don’t really know if other big schools are like this, but I have a friend at a smaller Christian college in Indiana that told me he has never seen any alcohol on campus.
If you have any other questions, let me know!
