Looking for feedback on Furman. We recently visited the campus and were so impressed. D25 loves everything about the school - the size is perfect for her, strong advising, opportunities for research, study abroad, etc. Now we are seeking info. about the school vibe. It did not feel extraordinarily Southern/traditional to us but curious if being from NY would feel out of place? I see the bulk of the students are from the SE. D25 is not interested in the party scene and it seems Furman is fairly balanced with parties and other activities. I have heard nothing but good things about the school but that is through the “grapevine”. Looking for recent first hand, recent experience about school vibe, in classroom experience, access to research and professors (bonus if you know about pysch or neuroscience). She really wants a school that is welcoming and has a strong “nice people” culture. We already know the Greenville area is a good fit for her as we were there for a few extra days and got a decent feel for the area. Any feedback is welcome.
Thank you!
It is absolutely a “nice person school.” I am going to use that in the future.
They have strong academics in a learning environment where students can find their strengths.
The students are kind and hard working.
I know students from the SE and from across the country who have thrived there.
I am also looking for feedback on this school. Everything I have read has been terrific.
I recommend reading the Fiske Guide To Colleges’ review of Furman University which begins: “Furman is relatively conservative, and the student body is predominately Christian and regional.”
Lots of students attend church on a regular basis.
I like Furman University, but it may or may not be the best fit for all students.
Greenville, SC is a nice city.
