The prompt is why am I interested in Journalism. (I have submitted the application already and it’s being reviewed)

It would be simple to say my love for journalism started when I was just in the womb, but that’s unethical. My love for journalism was one that wasn’t obvious. My path has always told me to become a journalist, but I never wanted to admit it to myself. It started in elementary school. I woke up every morning at 7am, and while I got ready I turned on The Today Show. I loved watching Meredith Vieira, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer recap the news of today, as I watched I didn’t know they were journalist, I thought they were celebrities. I was amazed by how they told stories, and interviewed people. It left me with such comfort, and I myself didn’t even know the value of it. After school,I would race home and watch the Oprah show, I really enjoyed the way Oprah told the facts, but even still then it didn’t occur to me that she was a journalist. Throughout my life, I always dreaded watching the news, because it was always tragic stories, rarely did they show the positive of life. That’s what always wavered my decision to be a journalist. I knew I wanted to write for the rest of my life, but my goal was to be a New York bestseller, not a journalist. I have done many writing workshops; I have made many blogs, and wrote in many journals. Writing has been a way of life for me as soon as I knew how to form letters. I was a kid who loved stories, I loved reading, writing and retelling them. I would tell anyone that could listen about a book I read, or a story I saw on TV. I knew the facts about court cases, and interesting crime stories, but I still never saw how that fit into being a journalist. In 10th grade I started my own magazine, where I design, write and photograph. The whole goal of my magazine was to tell good news, show inspiring stories because I didn’t appreciate bad news. I wanted my magazine to be a positive publication, and I achieved that goal, my classmates always tell me how the magazine is such a positive thing I am doing. I publish the magazine for free online because I want everyone to get a chance to see it, I don’t charge, I realized thank you is a currency for me, not money. I get so fulfilled when someone tells me my magazine inspired him or her, and is making a difference. This past month I applied for a program called Teen Media Journalist at my local ABC 2, normally 100 applicants apply which intimidated me, and I thought I wasn’t going to get it. It was November 1st, and I got a call from ABC 2, and I was chosen among 8 other people. Teen Media is a program where teenagers are journalist, and write and report their own stories on ABC 2’s show Teen Perspective, and it airs every last Saturday of every month until May. I was beyond excited.
What completely convinced to be a journalist was this past week I watched On The Road with Steve Hartman on CBS nightly news, and I truly knew journalism was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. On The Road with Steve Hartman is about a journalist named Steve Hartman, who travels to small towns, or big towns and finds inspiring positive stories in each town. I have always loved positive stories, but I never knew there was a market for it because America is so accustomed to hearing bad news. What reaffirmed my passion even more was Ellen DeGeneres commencement speech at Tulane University, she said always stay true to who you are, and keep your integrity. As a journalist, I want to keep my integrity, I want to be honest, I want to be positive and I want to inspire. At the end of every interview Oprah has done, they always ask her was that okay? So Northeastern I ask, was that okay?
