Feedback on the Politics Forum

I want it noted for the record that some of the most bullying posters are ones I agree with politically!

Make flags public, just as likes are. It may cut down on abuse.

Oof, I think that would cause a great deal more tension between members. Some people might feel differently about another member who flags their post. And it could further lead to a more targeted tit-for-tat.

I can see who reacted with a “100” emoji to your post. Why is that information public?

I’m that person. And I know what a headache that would be to moderators. Call me selfish.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::rofl:

Edit: In all sincerity, I do think showing flags would cause more tension rather than be constructive. I’m afraid it would prevent people from flagging legitimately problematic posts.

LOL! I’m not holding it against you.

Why would it be a headache?

Will seeing a 100 on my post cause me to in some way retaliate against DramaMama later? Does it create any new ill will between me and Drama Mama? No and no. A flag, for some members, might have that effect, though. One (positive reaction) is support, the other (a flag) is inherently a criticism. These two things have different effects.

But flags can be weaponized. That’s the difference.

Speaking of flags, I miss the old days of being able to unhide hidden posts…

I miss the old days of jail bars, but life goes on.

It won’t. In my opinion, of course.

But in the hopes to not having the discussion go more off topic, the answer is the same:

Except then the moderators would have to make judgement calls about whether a topic or post is “political” with an all-or-nothing result (either allowed, or deleted / closed / banned) that is likely to result in significant disagreement. Before there was a politics section, some topics and users were frequently approaching and testing the (fuzzy and subjective) line of what was “too political”.

The old days of what?

Off to Google lol

Flags do not automatically take effect. Moderators review flags and action them only if warranted. So posters cannot simply use flags to shut down other posters.

I knew a member who went ahead and added the jail bars to his avatar, lol

LOL, when I heard “jail bars,” I was imagining an old timey saloon and Otis the Drunk from the Andy Griffith Show.

I remember that as well

Correct me if I’m wrong, can’t multiple flags hide a post without admin involvement?

I’m not sure that is the case anymore…but it used to be.

Here ya go

It appears to be the case still.
