Hi, I’m seeking information on schools that facilitate pathways from a business bachelor’s degree to the Entertainment Industry, particularly in Miami or New York. For instance, I’m curious about institutions considered as feeders to companies like Disney in Orlando. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Take a look at UCF.
Hospitality like resorts or Entertainment like film, music, plays, etc?
Hospitality can be NY, Florida, or Southern California, but for Entertainment I’d lean hard towards LA.
USC, LMU and Chapman are the big entertainment schools in California.
Disney pulls students from all over the nation. If you are interested in Disney specifically, you might look into the Disney College program.
It depends. I know someone from U Tampa working at Universal.
Identify the organizations of interest. Check theyr websites. They likely post jobs.
I think you can go to school most anywhere and access. But if you want colleges focused on entertainment business, just business or hospitality, then seek those schools out.
Just a regular business degree to entertainment, your choices aren’t limited.
It’s a hard question to answer because in the real world, there is no such thing as generic “business”. Disney hires accounting talent just like Boeing and Merck and Target do.
You don’t need to know at a granular level what you want to do when you grow up… but on the “business side”, entertainment companies are going to hire supply chain, accounting, finance, facilities, HR talent in the same way that other large corporations do.
On the content/talent side? Different story. Although behind the “magic”-- there are countless mechanical engineers, computer science grads, graphic design professionals… again, graduates of hundreds of different schools. I recently met someone at Disney’s theatrical division- pretty senior person- with a degree in applied math. The Lion King was widely considered a pioneer in bringing dynamic ticket pricing to Broadway-- and turns out, they need the same talent every other company does.
I’d find a college where I could do well and thrive, and then target my job search to the companies and geographies in question. A talented CPA (or programmer, or statistician, or supply chain guru) will figure out the path into whatever industry he or she wants.
