Feeling Discouraged

<p>So, after reading about everybody’s super amazing stats, I’m feeling a bit discouraged. I always though I was a pretty good student, and I am when compared to the students at my school, but not so much when compared to students across the country. I already submitted my application, so the only things I can change are my test scores. What are my chances?</p>

<p>GPA - Unweighted: 3.93
GPA - Weighted: 4.56
Class Rank: 4/502
ACT: 29 <a href=“retaking%20in%20December”>R:33 S:27 M:27 W:29 Essay:6<—BOO</a>
SAT I: Terrible! (not even submitting!)
SAT II: Taking Literature, Math II, and US History in December.
AP: US History: 4, World History: 3 (Took a total of only 4 AP classes, but all of my core classes have been at least Honors)
Grades: Straight A’s since sophomore year, had a couple of B’s freshman year, but nothing below that. </p>

Student Council - Representative
Barack Obama Campaign for Change - Staging Location Director
Nevada Boys’ State - Supreme Court Justice
Cross Country - Varsity</p>

<p>Volunteer/Service Work: Barack Obama Campaign for Change, Various Charity Walks, Teens Against Tobacco Use, Unicef Trick-or-Treat for kids, clothing the homeless. </p>

<p>Honors and Awards: Varsity Letter, Honor Roll, Junior Platinum Award, Outstanding French Student</p>

<p>Teacher Recommendation: Meh…
Counselor Recommendation: I thought it was pretty damn good!
Essay: My English teacher wrote, “WOW!” after reading it. =)</p>

<p>Don’t feel discouraged, Your ACT is in the middle 50% of Fall 2008 Admits. Your GPA is above the mean. It looks like you had a rigorous class schedule and have good ec’s. I’m sure a lot of applicants wish they were in your position.

<p>Since you haven’t posted much here yet, you may be new to this forum. You should know that the students on College Confidential tend to have higher stats than most applicants so it can seem a little daunting in comparison. </p>

<p>Your GPA and rank are great and remember, USC looks at your app based on how you did in your particular school and if you took a rigorous course load, which you did. You’re 4th out of 500 students. You also have leadership and service involvement. I don’t think you have reason to be discouraged.</p>
