Feeling Older Yet?

I have my share of gray hair, doesn’t bother me. It’s cut short. I’m going for the Jaime Lee Curtis look, lol. I’m not into high maitenance hair. I’m 48.

Other than my creaky right knee and my cottage cheese thighs, the evidence of my aging is most apparent to me when I look at my kids (21 and 24) and realize that they are adults now and don’t really need us for much anymore (except paying the tuition, living expense for S2,college jr).
When I was 21, I was married. When I was 24,I had S1. At that age I thought my mother was old and had a boring life. Now, I know wasn’t true. I wonder if our kids think the same of us now? I don’t feel old and boring.

This is one thing that really gets to me about aging. I can remember being in my twenties and early thirties and looking at people my current age (48) and thinking they were old, boring and almost felt sorry for them. Wow - was I naive!! It bugs me to know that younger people look at me that way but I guess I just need to adopt the attitude of ‘you don’t get it now but your day is coming’. :)

Even now I think 70 is old until I look at my in-laws (early seventies) and my parents (late sixties) and realize they still do a lot of traveling, socializing, etc and have very full lives. Other than the fact their knees are stiff and they’re more wrinkly, not much has changed.

I know folks are in their 80s and travel, staying at 5* hotels and cruising. They golf as often as they like, have friends, parties, eat out whenever they want, and generally have a good life. If that’s boring, that’s a life I think I could enjoy. Those I know who work M-F do so because they WANT to.

I think it’s a matter of perspective and how well you’ve planned & take care of your health and finances. Those who have more choices and comfort enjoy their years while the others keep waiting & hoping for things to improve.

Feeling old? Well, yes, every time I look in the mirror.
In just the past few months I’ve noticed that I have wrinkles at the sides of my mouth that seem to collect toothpaste, crumbs, etc and give me a frowny, cranky old lady expression… which makes me feel like a frowny, cranky old lady. Dammit!

Am I the only grandma here??? Well, I tell you, I love being a grandma and my grandbaby is the cutest little boy there is. And his SAT scores are off the wall! Class of 2027 I think…
