Feeling stressed out...Cats (the movie) can help.

Well not the movie itself. But the terrible reviews are a joy and can provide a good laugh. You can search for Cats reviews and a ton will come up. One of my faves is behind a Boston Globe paywall but the gist is: “I truly believe our divided nation can be healed and brought together as one by “Cats” — the musical, the movie, the disaster. In other news, my eyes are burning. Oh God, my eyes.… In fact, there are moments in “Cats” I would pay to unsee … Anyone who takes small children to this movie is setting them up for winged-monkey levels of night terrors.”

LOL, that’s funny. I plan to see it and am fully prepared for it to be less than fabulous. I have Regal Unlimited so at least I won’t be paying anything more than I already pay for my subscription. I just can’t imagine it’s as bad as the reviews and I simply must find out for myself. Plus having seen it on Broadway back in the day there’s the nostalgia draw as well.

I’ve been following the comments on Twitter. Epic!

I also have Regal Unlimited - but I insist on seeing it in a neighborhood where there are cynics!

Forget the place in the islands.

Regal unlimited is my first purchase in retirement in 7 to 10 years. I hope they still have it

Does the movie have drinking game potential? Mom flew in four hours ago. 'Nuff said.

?

I asked Mr. whether he wanted to see Cats, and he said that he’d rather clean our cat boxes for a month.

“Does the movie have drinking game potential? Mom flew in four hours ago. 'Nuff said.”

I believe it does. Try the word “ jellicle”.

The Daily Mail has 10 reviews from real people; some liked it.

The Guardian has a comments section letting people post their own reactions. Some are hilarious. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2019/dec/24/cant-believe-the-negative-publicity-your-reviews-of-cats

I plan on seeing it, perhaps on line or on blue ray but have this prediction. I think those that love the music and the play and have a general understanding of the plot will at least like it if not love it. Those who haven’t seen the play, don’t really know the music beyond “Memory” or didn’t like the play will hate it. We will see.

I don’t like Broadway musicals so I have no intention of seeing it, but I think the problem is that you are getting to that uncanny valley territory with the costuming/make up.

I love musicals but CATS is the only broadway show that I’ve ever left during intermission. I didn’t know who was who, couldn’t follow the (none) story and was totally confused. I saw the movie CATS yesterday (morbid curiosity), but I actually liked it.
You have to have an aura of disbelief and just go with the flow. It is a bunch of singing and dancing cats after all.
