Statistically speaking, are chances better for a female student to declare her major as Computer Science or Engineering, say at a UC?

At Berkeley in particular, applying to Letters and Science and then declaring the Computer Science (L&S CS) major later likely involves less selective freshman admission than applying to the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) major in Engineering. The L&S CS major is not currently capped like some other L&S majors which current students have to apply with a high GPA to declare.

Other campuses may vary (and it is possible for L&S CS to become capped if it becomes more popular relative to its capacity – it used to be capped before the early 2000s).
