<p>Vix – are you asking about NCAA divisions? (The previous answer assumed, I think, that you were referring to the (rating-based) divisions used at US Fencing Association events.)</p>
<p>“Divisions” mean completely different things in NCAA vs. USFA.</p>
<p>In NCAA there’s very little difference in the level of competition. Div 1 can offer scholarships, but few do. Ivies are Div 1 but can’t offer athletic scholarships. Div 3 can’t offer scholarships. Div 1, 2, and 3 teams all compete against each other.</p>
<p>For the USFA, Div 1 competitions are reserved for A, B, and C rated fencers. Div 2 is C and under. Div 3 is D and under.</p>
