Fencing..?

I heard there is a fencing class…anyone know anything about it?

I’m interested in taking it.

Yeah, for PE you can take Intro Olympic (foil), Epee (after you learn foil in Intro Olympic, you can take this course to learn how to fight with an epee), Classical, or Renaissance fencing. There’s an $80 fee, and they typically meet for 45 minutes twice a week for a semester.
See [Cornell Physical Education: Fencing](<a href=“Physical Education | Cornell University”>Physical Education | Cornell University)

Would I take…intro or Classical?

I don’t understand the difference. What are the classes like? Do you spar?

If you’d like to fence the same way the NCAA and Olympics fence, you’d choose Intro to Fencing. Basically, there are three types of weapons that Olympic fencers use, the foil, the epee, and the sabre. Intro fencing teaches you foil, and the advanced course teaches you epee. You basically learn footwork, the parries/ ripostes, and the rules in the intro class. I think you only have bouts in the last week when there’s a class tournament. It’s not unusual for fencing programs to spend a very long time on the basics before letting you actually go at it.

I’m not sure what they do in Classical or Renaissance fencing.
