Few question about transfering GPA.

Im majoring in Computer Science, been in CC for a year now looking to transfer to UCI or UCLA, just have a few question about transfering GPA.

If a class is only 1.5 Transferable credit class and non IGETC, would UC’s still count that towards my GPA when I transfer? Its elementary guitar, just an extra class that was left. Chose to take it because I’ve been playing guitar for 10 years, so i believe I can get an easy A and that of course would only help my transfer GPA, but if it isn’t considered towards my GPA when transferring, I will just drop it.

2.Is the completion of IGETC mandatory if I’ve finished all my major prep class? I might not be able to complete a couple of required on IGETC because of the amount of major prep classes.

Is it true that even after completing all major prep classes, majors such as engineering still require a very high gpa(3.75+) compared to most of the other majors? 3.5-3.6 won’t be enough?

Much thanks

Check it on your school catalog or assist => UC transfer eligibility to see if it’s UC-transferable. Generally, guitar course is transferable, but you should double check…

No, not required by most schools, except UCSD. However, you should complete as many as possible, since HSSEAS’s GE is much like IGETC. That will give you some advantage when you transfer.

Generally, yes. 3.5 - 3.6 may get you into UCI, but 3.75+ students have much better chance. Having said that, you should see this link: [Profile of Admitted Transfer Students by Major, Fall 2010 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof10_mjr.htm#SEAS)
Average GPA Admitted for UCLA’s CS last year was 3.80 :)

Oh yeah, the class is for sure transferable, but the grade that I get in that class will be guaranteed to reflect on my transfer GPA? Since its only a 1.5 credit class I just want to make sure UC’s do not ignore it.

And crap… 3.8 >.<

It is reflected in your transfer GPA, as long as it is UC-transferable and Assist-certified :)

What is your GPA right now? Even with something < 3.8, as long as you complete all major pre-reqs and write a good essay, you still have a good chance

oh ok awesome. GPA is currently 3.5

That’s fine, keep going
Btw, I am planning to go for CS at LA too :D, have you taken equivalent courses of CS31, 32, 33 yet?

Haha awesome! And nope, havn’t taken any CS courses yet all because it was impossible to get that class with the registration schedule I was given. Was finally able to get a good reg. date for this fall though, taking a CS class this coming fall. What about you?

Me neither :frowning: I will start with a course equivalent to LA’s CS31 this Fall, and I still have lots of pre-reqs to do, 3 sem of physics, 1 sem of Chem, DE, LA darnnnnnnn

ah, Im on the same boat also. Couldn’t get into any physics or chemistry courses. still got them on my plate. :(

Lol, I’m even thinking of staying an extra year to complete all pre-reqs and IGETC and then apply :frowning:
I think UCLA’s pre-req for Engineering majors is one of the most comprehensive, maybe along with Cal’s EECS 'sigh #imfloodedwithprereqs :(

Ahhh, UCLA’s CS 3.8… that’s why I switched over so I could transfer into UCLA’s Linguistics & Comp Sci… :/

I wish I knew something about linguistic to consider that option lol :frowning:
But then, only 3 people applied last year, 2 was accepted and only 1 enrolled so you had a great chance :D

I know. That’s why I switched. :P

Honestly, the requirements for L&CS are much fewer than CS&E (my original major). You just complete a few major-prep classes (two years of one language or one year of two languages), some math, one symbolic logic course, and then you complete IGETC and that’s it.

Yeah, my schedule is probably going to require 4 years of CC before transfer. But hey, its a very useful degree, it will be all worth it, that’s how I look at it haha.
