I cannot answer most of your questions, but I can answer a few:

Should you buy a bike? Few students use bicycles. Remember, the campus is basically up and down, with stone steps leading from one level to the next. Yes, you can use the roads, but it’s not the shortest distance. If you need to get to the Mountaintop or Goodman campus, you would take the bus.

Do many students play tennis for fun? No. But you can, if you want. The tennis courts are located on the Goodman campus. Indoor courts have limited availability in the afternoon because of tennis team practices, although you can play in the morning or in the evening. There are four or five outdoor courts open for general use, available on a first come, first serve basis. The nets probably come down around November and are put back up in the spring.

Average amount of work per day? A lot, but the number of hours depends on your courses, your work habits, and your reading speed/comprehension. For first-year engineers, the killer courses are usually calculus and physics.

Can you apply for financial aid? At all universities, that’s something done once a year. You can apply for 2010-11 next spring. For outside scholarships, you’ll have to research their deadlines.

Is Lehigh’s college ranking good? Well, it is what it is. In the Northeast, Lehigh is highly respected, especially for engineering, although the name carries weight in all disciplines. Elsewhere, it is less well-known, although I suppose one advantage of the USNWR rankings is that more people are hearing about it.

You’ll have to get responses from current students for most of your questions.

My son is entering his sophomore year for bioengineering. He studied very hard last year but also had enough time for fun. I really have not idea how much he studied but he did well in his classes. His most challenging classes were Biology (about 60% of the students dropped the class by the end of the semester because of failing) and 2nd semester calculus (I don’t know the specific name but it was the calculus that dealt with 3-d problems).

As far as the fridge, Lehigh has very specific rules re: fridges and microwaves. I remember that my son was not able to bring a small dorm fridge that we already had because of these specifications.

Good luck

A Gryphon (not griffon) gets a single room and board. Second and third year gryphons get a small stipend.

Unless you like biking on the side of a small mountain, a bike isn’t very helpful for an on campus student. Even if you are a distance rider, many of the roads have no shoulder and many have fairly blind turns.

OTOH, my daughter lives off campus and all of her classes are on the main campus. She has her bike this year, but didn’t have it any other year.
