Alright, well first off, I’ve been looking at penn state for quite some time. I know the reputation for being a social school as well as a very good one, so that was a huge draw. Here’s my questions:

If I apply to SHC and get in, do I have to go? I mean, I hear they get put in separate dorms from the freshmen and all, and I’m not sure I would want that.

WEather is like jersey right?

If they don’t put you into separate dorms, how am I looking for admission into SHC?

You don’t have to accept honors housing. Most people do, some don’t.

Weather is like northern NJ but a little colder in winter, cooler all year which is nice if you’re there in the summer. Doesn’t necessarily snow more, though.

I have no idea But if you’re interested you should apply, and don’t worry about the housing.

If you can, you should try to get to the Schreyers Open House on October 1. We went last fall and it was extremely informative. Ob1 is correct, you definitely should apply if you are interested, and you don’t have to live in the honors housing. BUT, before you make that decision, visit to see the location of the honors housing versus other dorms. Here is the link to register for the open house: http://www.shc.psu.edu/2008/index.html

The Schreyer dorms are in a great location - right near the HUB, rec facilities and downtown. They are by no means fancy, but some of the rooms are pretty large and they offer nice common areas including a top notch computer lab. That said, you can choose to live outside of honors housing… I think only about 10% do. My son lived in the honors dorms freshman year and there is a good mix of kids. Some quiet and studious, others NOT.
Go ahead and apply. You didn’t list GPA and that’s important. Essays are important too so work hard on them. Apply before Nov 30 for the best chance. You’ll hear back in mid Feb. Good luck!

Sorry about that didn’t realize my gpa wasn’t up there. I have a 3.9 my bad.

I also will definetly considering applying now that I know I have an option for the dorms. Its just that I want a complete freshmen experience as a lot of my vollege friends regret being isolated or away from the rest of their class.

Also I’m applying early should have my stuff done by friday. If you turn them in before nov 1 they automaticaly assume you are applying ea correct?

Ok, also on the app where it says do you have any college credits I selected yes, but it wanted me to put where I took them. The credits are coming from Fairleigh Dickenson, but I’m enrolled at the program in my school. How should I write that up there? Should I just put it like I took classes there?

Also, if I take the OCt SAT and plan to get a 2100, should I wait to send it in, or do you think I should just send in the 1970 now and put a note up there?
