Few questions from a tarheel hopeful.

I we just wondering how admissions will look at my leadership positions. I only have two and they are both president. Im in a lot of other clubs but im a little worried that two won’t be enough.

Also Im in the ib program so I was curious about how unc views ib. Is it something that they like to see?

Thanks in advance

I would think two is enough but it’s not really the number of positions right? The experience you gain is valuable.

UNC wants to see you take the most rigorous course load including applicable AP/IB courses but I’m not sure IB is an advantage over a full AP schedule.

IB is much more rigorous and UNC admission counselors know this. The IB program is internationally known as a challenging college preparatory program that only select institutions offer.

Don’t stress too much about the leadership positions. I know freshmen from the Class of 2014; don’t know any freshmen now because I just graduated that got in without any leadership and even a girl who did not take any AP courses who was from Maryland (claims her school did not offer them, since URM is important factor, she was caucasian).

Thanks guys. Btw do my ec’s look okay.

So would that compensate for not a whole lotta leadership positions?

Yeah you’re focusing too much on titles. UNC does not chose one kid over another because of the number of leadership positions they held. There are kids who do not have any but get admitted because they market themselves well in their essay.

Your essays are going to be highly important, it is going to be UNC’s first impression of you. You will want to focus on making yourself stand out.

Best of luck dude. How’s your GPA/ SAT score? That’s most important!

Only thing that is hurting you a lot right now is your ACT, did you try taking the SATs yet? You did not tell me you’re an URM, that definitely helps. I think you’re fine. What part of NC are you from? I’m not from NC, but I know that it is competitive to get into UNC from select areas and schools because of the high number of applicants just alone in your area/high school. Mainly I know Charlotte, Raleigh/Cary and Chapel Hill/ Durham are really competitive (schools like Myers Park, Chapel Hill East, Enloe High School, etc.)

You are going to make it. Your grades on the weight are at the average for UNC which was about a 4.47 weight last year and you’re at a 4.43. All the EC stuff has a little impact (little, probably) and the overwhelming major factor is the academic record; yours is fine. Keep up the good work b/c they’ll check those mid-semester grades AND your courseload.

the ks.
