Field Gear

Hi everyone,
I dropped off the radar for a bit, settling in to my new job. I’m finally a platoon leader! We’re in the field, so I figured I’d do a quick post on what I actually use on a day to day basis. This is a list of the things in my pockets/in my camelback pockets so it’s not comprehensive, but it is the more important stuff.

Hand sanitizer
Knife (my Gerber grew legs at some point, and it’s PINK so I need to replace it with a pink one because my platoon thinks it’s funny)
Notepad
Pens (lots)
Plastic baggies (useful for all sorts of stuff, I’ve got my cell phone in one and spare hygiene stuff in another)
Motrin (we’re doing combatives, level 1 certification, I HURT)
Hair ties
Random flotsam and jetsam that I’ve been collecting. Copies of my platoons profiles, a battle roster, a contact sheet, that kind of thing.

In my hygiene kit:
Babywipes
brush
extra hair ties
toothbrush
toothpaste
Qtips
More motrin

that’s about it. One thing I’ve learned is that you can get by with a LOT less stuff than you think you need. A lot of it is fun to have (I have a mini LED attached to my body armor and it had come in handy, but my mini mag works just as well, and I keep it in a magazine pouch on the same IBA)

This may be more of a Buckner post than a Beast post, but I’m running on minimal sleep right now…Go run! Do more pushups and situps!

Great exercise I learned today in the combatives pit…It’s called the Mad Minute. Do 10 pushups, 10 situps, and 10 lunges in under a minute. Rest until the minute is over. Repeate for 10 iterations. I’m in pretty good shape and couldn’t get through minute 5 in the time requirement. That may be because I’ve been getting smoked for the last week…but it’s still a good workout that I’ll be incorporating into my personal PT time.

Happy thoughts from South Korea!
