Fig recipes

My D has a fig tree in her rental. What are your favorite recipes?

I just stuff them in my mouth! Yum. Especially with a little goat cheese and walnut pieces. Yum.

Figs are great on flatbread pizza and in tarts. Sliced figs are nice in salads with goat cheese and nuts and balsamic dressing.

Mix some blue cheese & honey to stuff them, then wrap in bacon and bake.

I just eat them fresh. Love them.
You can put figs when roasting meat, they could make the meat more tender.
We used to have two fig trees in our old house and we would eat them right off the tree. Planted four new ones in current house and two of them might bear fruit next year, can’t wait.

Try them in some old fashioned oatmeal - really delicious!

Fig and goat cheese pizza. Bake, then top with arugula and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar.

Similarly, make a cheesecake, substituting a bit of goat cheese for cream cheese (maybe 1/3), use lemon zest to flavor, top with sliced figs and bake.

My tree produces more figs than I can keep up with, so I freeze them and put them in smoothies. Yum!

Another one who loves them on pizza. Prosciutto, figs, Blue cheese, Asiago, and a sprinkle of truffle oil. We paint the pizza dough with a very thin barely there garlic white sauce. Such a treat when figs are in season and plump and juicy.

They’re great in a balsamic reduction sauce. Dice and add to some balsamic and a pinch of salt, maybe 1/2 cup depending on how much you need. Low boil for about 15-20 minutes until reduced by 50-60%. Use to dip steak or any strongly-flavored meat (e.g. lamb), or reduce a bit less and use as a salad dressing (maybe with a bit of sherry vinegar for some tartness).

Make a big batch of fig compote and freeze the excess in a bunch of small containers. Serve with roasted meats, on a cheese board, as a sandwich spread, in fancy canapés, or just spread it on a cracker. So yummy!

Thanks. I’m going to go over today and picked some. I made a quick jam recipe last week that I served on chicken. I used the leftover as a sweet component in a salad dressing.
Pizza is another great idea.
