Anyone else get information in the mail about these? Are they worth it?

No, I haven’t gotten any info yet, but I’m definitely thinking about joining one for Pre-law.

what is a fig? new mom to college stuff

never mind figured it out First Year Intrest Groups

thanks anyway

My son got his infor but they assigned him a different FIG from the one he had originally put down on his housing form. Seems they told him that the FIG has to relate to one of the classes he signed up to take. One of the reasons he decided to go for his original FIG is because it was tied into housing on College Ave, where he would like to be.

Anyone going to do this definetly? Anybody done it already? Feedback appreciated.

I took a FIG in medicine. It wasnt the best experience of my life nor was it the worst. It was pretty low stress and I learned some stuff, though I was somewhat knowledgeable about Rutgers and medicine already. I think they’re more useful for students who have no idea about their field of interest. Also, some teachers are amazing and some are not so much… its luck of the draw. (If you didn’t know, I think theyre all taught by jr and sr undergrads.)
Overall, I would recommend it if it’s not at an annoying time or whatever. You’ll always have the chance to drop it in the beginning of the year. You’ll meet some other freshman interested in what you may be interested in and the teacher should have some useful advice to give.

i came here to make a thread about FIGS but yayy i don’t need to.
in the letter it says “among a select group of incoming first- year students”…i thought everyone was offered FIGS…?
and also they offered me a seminar i’m not really interested in…should i still do it? does it look good?

I just got my stuff for FIGS today…they offered me the Psych. one and the Sociology one, but I put Psych. down as my first choice. I think it’s based on whether or not they have a FIG for the classes you chose. Sounded like a good way to meet new people and get a credit, so I figured what the hell.

swingline-- Yea, I think everyone in Rutgers College can do FIGS. I don’t know what you mean by “seminar.” What’s it called officially? An honors seminar or something else?

super- it’s called law and leadership. sorry, i didn’t mean to juice it up by calling it a seminar…that’s just what they refer to it as in the letter.
