My son is in Marshall and he just filled out the questionaire, but we had a couple of questions regarding this. He put “No preference” for most of the questions except the smoking one. He doesn’t smoke and because of asthma can’t be around people who do. Other than that he really doesn’t care as long as they are nice, fun people. However he really wants a single. Would he have a better chance if he were to put yes or no under some of these questions? Also, would it come off as prejudical if he put down under other conciderations that he prefered his suitemates to converse in english so he could be a part of the conversations etc…He doesn’t want to get stuck with a bunch of people who speak another language while he is out of the loop! How would he express this without sounding prejudiced?!? he doesn’t care what nationality they are, just doesn’t want to be the minority!!

I think there’s only one person I’ve met here who speaks only in her native language for everything, and I’ve met hundreds of people. I don’t think it’s likely that he will get someone like that. The vast majority, if they are fluent in a second language, will speak it to their parents over the phone, or with their ethnically-similar friends, but will be happy to converse in English for those who do not understand.

Thanks! We’ll just leave things to chance and hopefully they will work out!
