Does anyone know about the quality of the film department at U of C? Does the curriculum contain any production courses or is it all strictly film studies and theory?

U of C doesn’t have films so much as a sequential series of daguerreotypes that you have to flip through to watch. I once offered to buy some dvds for the department but they hissed at me and went screaming off down the midway.

There is a documentary film production class, but this is not the school for serious training in film making. Fire Escape Films is, however, an active student-run film production organization.

For all it’s worth, I think graduate education in film (at a place like UCLA, USC, NYU) is way more practical than majoring in it in undergrad.

I completely agree signitblank. I was just wondering what the undergrad department is like. I know doc films is a significant group on campus
