Fin Aid in Appalachian State University?

Hi there,

I applied to attend Appalachian State University in the fall as a transfer student (they have rolling admissions); I was wondering what their financial aid is like. My EFC is literally 00008 and I can’t afford much. Do they meet 100% of need? Thanks.

They do not guarantee to meet need for all accepted students.

Just be patient and see what they offfer you.

Apply for Federal Pell Grants.

@Studious99

You don’t “apply” for federal Pell Grants. The Pell Grant is a federally funded entitlement based on your FAFSA EFC.

This student would receive just about a full Pell of $5900 or so…with an $8 FAFSA EFC.

The college will include that Pell grant in the financial aid package the student receives. No additional application required.

This student is a transfer so he would get $6500 in Direct Loans as a second year student as well.

Do they offer like a school grant? I used to go to Syracuse and they would give me a $20,000 grant (it’s a really expensive school) that wasn’t federal but from the school.

Are you instate for NC? The school barely costs $20,000 a year. I don’t think you will see a grant that large as a transfer student… but wait and see.

Yeah I’m in state. Syracuse costs like 60k per year so app and cuse have very different prices…I just mentioned the $20,000 because everyone only mentions federal aid such as pell grants and federal loans…and I was wondering if there was another form of aid like the one that Syracuse offered me, a grant from the actual university. Maybe i was given that because Syracuse is a private university, I don’t know.

Most schools do have institutional grants. Syracuse is a wealthier school than App State. Also I don’t know if they offer grants to transfer students. At this point…what choice do you have? Wait and see.

True, I guess I’ll wait. I just wanted to have an idea. Thanks!

Check the App. State net price calculator. SOME schools, not all, give a choice for year in school but others only work for freshmen. Even if you fill it out and it is just for freshmen, it might show you how much in need based grants you might receive. If it spits out merit aid, it probably won’t be reliable as those might be freshman only awards.

It’s not a very detailed NPC, and based on 2014/15 numbers, but it indicated about $11,000 in grants for a family of three with one in college, instate, making under $30,000. COA ~$19,000
